Also, great news! I will be on KPFA 94.1 “La Raza Chronicles” in an interview with Nina Serrano on April 22nd!  I shared the information about the Residency in Mexico, the Benefit at Shawl Anderson and got to read an original poem called “Piñata Solo” Stay tuned!:-)

As you may have heard, I have been accepted to a reputable month-long artist residency called “360 Xochi Quetzal” in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico this coming May 2014.  It is typically given to writers and visual artists and I am their very first choreographer chosen among 160 applicants internationally!

This is a huge honor and so exciting for me because it will be the first time I will be able to visit Mexico, the country belonging to half of my ethnic heritage. This is the beginning of my cultural exchange with Mexica artists and healers in Mexico and a chance to deepen my relationship to myself through “Ancestral Land Sensing”. My plan is to dance, play my flute and commune in Chapala and Guadalajara for 3 weeks, and then dance and explore in Mexico City for a week.

With your help, I will:

  • Expand the  Dance Collective internationally

  • I will research and document site specific dances in pre-hispanic locations

  • Continue to develop my artistry which builds community, educates & innovates.

  • Pay the 9 artists performing for my residency benefit concert on Sunday, May 4th, 4pm. See FaceBook Page:  Benefit Piñata Celebration for PDC and Liz.

What I am asking for:

360 Xochi Quetzal is generously providing me free lodging and a food stipend in Chapala, MX and I am hoping to raise $3600 for the following items:

$700- Pay Artists who are generously donating their time to my project. Please come to my upcoming Mexico residency “Send Off” – an informal Piñata Celebration and Benefit Concert with 9 incredible dancers and musicians! Sunday, May 4, 4pm @ Shawl Anderson Dance Center, Berkeley.

$550- My flight expenses to Guadalajara and to Mexico City.

$1750-A new company Computer, Ipad and tripod to document my work and give PDC the upgrade we desperately need.

$600- Take dance classes for a month, buses, museums and pay for lodging for 9 days in Mexico City in June.

Thank you for your generosity* Any amount will help!

Even if you donate $5… or simply press SHARE.

Also, please come see me off on Sunday May 4, 4pm!

collage I’m celebrating my 15th year of dancing in the SF Bay Area!  I have so many people and places to thank for supporting, teaching, collaborating, inspiring, joining, and helping me to be a mother and artist.  WOW!! Is it really 2014?? My son keeps asking me if a time travel machine has been invented yet.  Not sure, but if all things go as planned, this year of the HORSE will bring travel for Piñata Dance Collective.  I am currently seeking artist residencies in Mexico for my movement research in ancestral land-sensing as well as the contemporary and indigenous roots of La Piñata.  Dates TBA. Wish me luck!  See below for all classes, news and events I am offering for the next few months, as well as my new  **creative economics policy**.

Warmly, Liz Boubion, MFA, RSMT

  • ***Creative Economics Policy*** In 2014, I want to make sure that my private workshops and sessions (TEMENOS: A Movement Practice for Women, and Private Somatic Movement Sessions) are accessible for all income levels by providing the “Donate at the Door” option on Pay Pal. I am also open to trades and work exchange.  For the last 15 years of living in the Bay Area, I have been given an enormous amount of support based on the generosity of people. I have received, free, sliding scale, trades and work exchanges for classes, performances, workshops, donated space, dana-based retreats and really cheap body work that have all supported my artistry, my health and my spiritual growth. They idea is that you give what you can…and what you feel good giving. I have no judgement about it and trust it will pay forward. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!!! MUCHAS GRACIAS MIS GENTES BONITAS!
